Vet recommended
We got our pitty whe she was 5 weeks old and the next day took her to the vet to have her checked and get any and all recommendations. We were told Royal Canin was the best nutritionally balanced food because they developed the food to not only be healthy but not cause any allergies at stomach upset. She has been eating Royal Canin every since and even gets jealous of her boxer sister We adopted 10 months later. The boxer was introduced to the food slowly as it was mixed in with the food she was already on until it was all Royal Canin. As they have grown they have been switched to this adult formula. They flove the taste. The size is good and we can make one bag last about 3 weeks sometimes I need to get a smaller bag to get through til I get my subscription bag but that not often just when they are very active in the spring and fall months when they play outside more. The quality is the same every time and their digestion is always good with no diarrhea or carpet scooting constipation.

The best!
My dog is fairly picky and absolutely loves this brand of dog food. After years of switching dog foods frequently when she got "bored" of the flavor I have finally found a brand that makes her happy and provides her the nutrients she needs!

Great food, even for my sensitive dogs, but craptacular bag
We now have three dogs on Royal Canin, our two and my dad's. All are rescues of unknown origin, so breed-specific isn't for us, but this plain old medium-dog works fine for all of them.My dad's little beagle-ish thing (Ollie) has been on a Purina product all his life, and did fine on it. However, we came for an extended visit and our dogs have food issues, so we had to put them all on the same thing, since they WILL eat out of any bowl they can get their snouts into. My border collie-ish thing (Lia) originally did fine on a Purina product as well, and never had any issues, but I got the Talking-To from the Dog People about slowly murdering my dog with it, so we tried Blue products. Those really did HURT her. The cattle dog-ish one (Charlie) just had soft stools, but Lia got weeping sores on her feet and ankles and didn't have a solid bowel movement for a month. We never thought of the food for the sores (panic attack over alleged ringworm instead), but took them both off. A while later, they both were a little constipated, and I still had some Blue around, so I threw it in the bowl. IMMEDIATELY Lia got sores on her feet and ankles again. No more Blue for us.We then used Nutro products for quite some time. Lia was always fine on those, but Charlie had reflux issues. Since we hadn't had him very long at that time, we thought it was just his stomach and had him on vet acid reducers. We ended up switching to RC because the kennel we used at the time for VERY frequent travel feeds RC, and it was frankly easier just to switch them than to haul our food so they could be fed something different to prevent switching back and forth. As it turns out, little Charlie has FAR fewer stomach issues and no longer needs the medicine.Ollie is an older guy with some arthritis and allergy issues. He seems to do better generally on the RC, and has more energy. It's a large-ish size kibble for medium dogs in my opinion, but I'm assuming there's some reason for that - perhaps they need to actually crunch the kibble in order to help clean their teeth or some such thing. The bag annoys me to no end. It's allegedly resealable. It is NOT, at least not without a great deal of time and trouble. If I'm paying $50 for a bag of dog food, you can put a decent zipper on the top. Basically, prospective buyers, you WILL need a bag clip for this, and a large one at that since the bag material is pretty inflexible.

UPDATED REVIEW - 2020 Quality dog food recommended by my vet and available on Amazon
Quality has remained consistent over the years and is the only brand of food I feed my dogs. Sadly, s3ome very good friends as well as a neighbor got into the feed your dog all raw meat kick and their beautiful dogs passed prematurely due to dilated cardiomyopathy, or DCM. There's plenty on both sides of the argument. I've logically been on the dogs have lived with hoomans for centuries and will eat whatever we don't including veggies so I logically felt a mixture of grains was a good thing. My dogs have been blessed with good health with the exception of one - she died of IMHI, gone in 3 days - but all have maintained beautiful coats, teeth and health. I even buy them a case or two of Royal Canin canned food for a treat. They're all from 60 to 105 pounds so we buy lots of this product. I should get a job as a rep I speak so highly of the product and my dogs all look like show dogs but are all rescues. Great product, still recommend it after all these years! This is the ONLY brand dog food I will feed my "pack" of 4 dogs. I purchase 3 different products from Puppy, to Medium, to Large and feed them separately. Two of my dogs were on "death row" at the animal shelter and their coats were so pathetic, they were sick. I had to hand feed them some wet Royal Canin to get them to even eat at first and then they've been on the product since January. Their coats are so shiny and smooth!! The transformation has been incredible. My male dog I've had from 8 weeks and his coat is so shiny and soft you'd literally think he's a stuffed animal. Cannot say enough positive things about this product. They eat less and have smaller and firmer stools - important when cleaning up after 4 big dogs!
