Setup is easy. Plug in the device and use the SmartLife application (iOS and Android) to add devices. Once a device is chosen, the SmartLife app provides access to most features from the normal remotes.Both Alexa and Google Home have the ability to connect with SmartLife . One thing that was confusing was that unlike other smart devices that are shown in the Alexa or Google Home app, these devices don't show any details and don't allow control directly from the app interface (with the exception of on/off). However, if you can figure out what to say, voice commands do work (like "Alexa, set the set top box to channel 50").There is a limited set of devices (TV, STB, DVD, Fan, and Air Conditioner) available that I wish included amplifiers and sound bars. Devices that utilize a 3rd party app have to rely on the developers of that app for feature set enhancement. In the Smartlife app, you can redefine buttons using a physical remote to train any code (this is "hidden" in the edit function called "Copy Button"). I used this redefine volume up, down and mute on the TV to control my soundbar.I don't use this for many functions but love coming in to the room and saying "Alexa, turn on the TV"!

== UPDATE 1/10/2019 ==I figured out how to hack this device to run a custom firmware called Sonoff-Tasmota. This gives it the ability to set schedules for custom devices, and interact with Google Home, IFTTT, etc. This probably won't appeal to most users, but some might find it useful: https://github.com/arendst/Sonoff-Tasmota/issues/4855== ORIGINAL REVIEW ==This is able to control your TV, Fan, or A/C just fine either via the App or a smart speaker.It can also "learn" nearly any remote code that it doesn't already know if you point your remote at it and hit each button. This was almost perfect for what I needed, but when you teach it a custom IR device (or DIY as they call it), you are unable to control anything via Google Home, Alexa, IFTTT, or even create Scenes or Automations within the Smart Life app.This is really unfortunate, because I wanted use an Automation to be able to open and close my IR curtains at a set time every day. This could be fixed with a software update, and I'd gladly give this device 5 stars if that happens. Currently though, they seem to be focused on supporting existing Fans, TVs, and Air Conditioners only.

Bought it to work with Alexa. Control via tuya app on your phone or tablet works great but via Alexa you can only control devices via IR which are supported (so are in the device lists). If you have devices not listed/supported and therefore have to "learn" the IR controller to simulate the buttons of your remote controller (so called DIY device), you cannot control these devices with Alexa, only with Tuya app.

Compact, powerful, full range of tv controls. Set up is a challenge. The instructions must have been written for an earlier model since the required actions don't seem to relate to the controls. Be prepared to spend some time with trial and error. Once it's up and running the next issue is linking to Alexa. Once Alexa has discovered the device there will be two new entries. One is Smart IR - ignore this one. The other is the item (ie TV) - this is the one you'll use in Alexa routines. I've used Harmony and Black Bean hubs. Once you've figured out this one it'll be a favorite.

I tried about 2 hours on this smart IR device. I made my BenQ projector (HT2050A) remote aim at this device, following the instruction shown on the app. Wifi connection is unstable and DIY does not work. This is definitely not my expectation.(UPDATE) Their customer service was fantastic! They pointed me out that my projector is type of RF control, not IR. They even asked the projector vendor for me. All the responses are quick. Surprisingly, they gave me a refund even though it was my mistake that I didn't make sure my projector is RF not IR. Thanks for their help and kind responses.

This little thing is the cat’s meow. I have a disability and having to wrangle multiple remotes is a Hugh challenge. Not to mention that I countinually drop them on the floor. I have an iPhone and with this little piece has changed my world. I am able to use my phone as the remotes. I can open and close my curtains, turn my heater on and off and even adjust the temperature. It took patience, but a total game changer!!!

So I ordered item little skeptical of its abilities. I have been blown away by its performance and customization. I’m using to currently Controle 3 window unit a/c, 4 tower heaters, 2 direct tv boxes and 2 Visio tv’s.In the pictures included the furthest tower heater is 33 feet away and hits it every time. I have made a custom mount for ir sender and Alexa by the smoke detector (Alexa is so much better high on the wall, it can hear by viberations). And in the second picture you can see the tv and dvr box BEHIND THE IR RECEIVER and it it still works. Not to mention the arrow points to another tower heater and window unit 12 foot behind the sensor that it still hits flawlessly as long as door is open and that still blows my mind. Regular remote for the ac in that room barely works 3ft away and this thing is in another room, facing opposite direction and 12ft away. AMAZINGHad to fool the app (smart life) to think the custom remotes or DIY remotes were different things to get Alexa to controle them. Otherwise Alexa never acknowledged the DIY remotes made. Just went prgm a tv and hit match on the first one. Top left “edit” let’s you edit the iR signal of each button if you have the original remote, then rename heater, air conditioner, etc. Alexa then tells you item is now available. Great buy and would purchase again ,if I had something it wouldn’t reach. By far the most used Alexa accessory/addon I have purchased!!
