Just as captivating for little minds today as it was 40 years ago
Although the lower age range for this book is 4, I couldn’t resist getting it for my 2 year-old grandson as I had such great memories of reading it to his daddy when he was little. And, actually, there’s lots for a younger child to enjoy. Some of the language and concepts are a bit advanced for him, but I just tell the stories in a simpler form, while he laughs himself silly at the brilliant illustrations. As he gets older, I expect I’ll embellish more on the basic ideas and introduce new vocabulary. So, all in all, a bargain for what will surely be several years’ worth of reading entertainment! Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful. Check out my profile page for more reviews of toddler books and puzzles and educational toys and games.

Really fun book to read both by children or to children.
Liked this as there were lots of short stories to keep my Grand-daughter’s attention span alert, which is often difficult due to learning difficulties. She loved the pictures too!

Love Richard Scarry books
Can't go wrong with Richard Scarry. Some wonderful stories, fantastic illustrations. My 5 year old loves reading this, especially the haunted bread.

It's all in the detail
I sent this book to my 3 year old nephew in Hong Kong. He loves detail and spends hours studying all the little scenarios going on on the page. I have a photo of him falling asleep with it in his bed, but the proof in the pudding was when I skyped him last week for a chat and he was sitting on the loo (we have to take our chances with the time difference!)- studying the book and showing me what he was looking at... brilliant to see him so engrossed..

All-time favourite kids' author
Richard Scarry continues to delight a third generation of children. If you are looking for a gift for a young child, you can't do better. Before they can read, it's perfect for storytelling. When they start to read, the enjoyment of the text is a big incentive to read alone. And those illustrations are so alive and so rich in detail they tell stories all on their own. My all-time favourite author for kids.

Got this for Grandson (3) mainly to relive the times I read the same book to our sons> Grandson loves it just as much as they did!
