Waveshare Jetson Nano Development/Expansion Kit, 16GB eMMC, Alternative Solution of B01 Kit Compatible with Both Jetson Nano and Jetson Xavier NX Optional Jetson Nano Core Module

Overall, I am satisfied enough with this product that I have ordered a second one as well. I would have given it a 5 star rating except for the following:The one disappointment I had with this is that it came configured to only boot from the eMMC, and it is also not configured to recognize a TF (micro SD) card. These things can be changed by reconfiguring aspects of the programming stored in the eMMC, but there are risks to doing that if it is not done correctly.The advantage of the way it is configured is that you can boot it up and start using it without having to download files online and burn them to a bootable disk or TF card as is required with the some Jetson Nano kits.The disadvantage of the way it is configured is that you must modify the “device tree file” in order to use the TF card slot on the carrier board, or to boot from a TF card or USB thumb drive. The documentation states that this can be “difficult for those who are just getting started.” I’ve decided that I want to be able to boot from different TF cards or USB thumb drives, so I can have different projects on different boot media that don’t interfere with each other. What I originally saw as an advantage became more of a disadvantage for me.I wanted to backup the eMMC before reconfiguring it to boot from a USB thumb drive, but in spite of doing extensive internet searches, I was unable to determine any way to create such a backup of the eMMC.I have successfully installed my first Waveshare Nano on a Yahboom DOFBOT Robot Arm that I purchased separately, and it works to control the robot arm. To use it to control the robot arm, I had to reconfigure my Waveshare Nano to boot from the USB “U-Disk” that Yahboom provides. I was able to do that by connecting my Waveshare Nano to another PC running Linux Ubuntu 24.04 and running a script on that PC that was provided by Yahboom to reconfigure the eMMC to boot from USB. It might be possible to do that from a Windows PC, but I’m not sure if it is or not.I ordered my second Waveshare Nano to use for projects not connected to the robot arm. I intend to modify the way it is configured so I can boot it from either a TF card or a USB thumb drive before I start any projects on it.I would have given this a 5 star rating if it had come configured to boot from a bootable TF card or USB device if present, and then only boot from the eMMC if no other bootable device is found. This sort of multi-boot feature where the user can set the boot order is a common feature in PCs that I have used. It would be nice if this Waveshare Nano kit came with the same option.
