I bought this for indoor recess for my students. I remembered loving this as a kid, and thought they might, too.Boy, did they! My students LOVE using fashion plates to make creations!I wish I had more frames so they could each have one. They share the plates, and compliment each other's creations. It really is wonderful for students to be creative and work together. I would highly recommend for a classroom recess, or any creative child.

This appeals to a wide range of ages and is excellent for creative entertainment!

I remember this fondly from my childhood and was happy to see it re-released - not only re-released but more or less like the original! The fashions are a little different, and the crayon is a little different as well. It's an actual crayon now, like a Crayola - I feel like I remember it being a mysterious black plasticy substance when I was a kid. I have written a review for the Melissa and Doug version of this toy as well and the M&D crayon holder grips better, but the fashion plates toy crayon holder works reasonably well, and the toy is otherwise superior to the M&D.We got the set with the little carry bag and everything stores very nicely. I think if you get the set without the bad you get crayons instead of colored pencils, and I don't see this toy working well with crayons at all.The plastic frame might be a little flimsier than when I was a kid, but the plates are nice and solid and my girls are able to get a good rubbing. Some of the plates, the neck and shoulders don't connect, but you can fill in with colored pencil for the final product.The paper this comes with is a little thick - we have better luck with 1/2 sheets of normal printer paper, in terms of getting a clear rubbing.Really nothing bad to say about this - my girls have been having fun with it, and it's just as I remember. We picked up the expansion plates as well which are clearanced right now at our "red circle store." I don't think I can mention the name but you will know what I mean.Great, creative, battery-free fine-motor-skill fun here.

This was great for my daughter who loves barbies, princesses, fashion, and simple crafts. I had the original version 40 years ago and this one is fairly comparable. Obviously it is flimsier and lighter-weight than the older styles as all toys these days are, but it’s functional and it seems the images appear with a bit more ease than the older version. It does leave streaks and smudges on the paper, but my daughter doesn’t care.The main reason I’m reviewing is because SO many people mentioned that the carrying case doesn’t hold the set securely. That simply isn’t true in my experience. The box clearly shows how to pack it all in the case properly, and when I did that, no problems at all! As you can see in the pics I included, it all fits and when suspending it in mid-air, everything stays securely.Would definitely purchase again!

This is just like the ones I had as a kid! There are several plates with just faces, several with face and upper torso, and more with just the bottom half with pants, skirts, shorts, etc. and shoes. The backs of each have the material patterns on them. It's still a little bit more mature for my 6 year old granddaughter, but she had fun coloring them. She isn't at the fashionista stage yet. Comes with the frame to hold the plates, 2 black rubbing crayons and holder, a small pack of colored pencils, some paper, and a case that folds up and holds it all. Very well made.

My granddaughter age 10 loved it. Her pictures looked really good. She has skill.

My 8 and 9 yr old daughters enjoy making design after design with this "old-fashioned" non-tech rubbing set. We paired it with a set of really nice coloring pencils (there are small colored pencils included that work fine), and our 4 and 5 yr old like using their crayons too for rubbing and coloring. Great design for all-in-one storage or as a take-along activity. (maybe not "in the car", but definitely at vacation arrival). Sharpies aren't as fun. You need to be able to "rub" with a colored pencil or crayon to get all the effects. Nice size box for gift wrapping. Has one rubbing "tool" but an extra rubbing insert (if you loose both a black crayon will keep the designs going). I had one 25 years ago and this set is just as nice, or better with the fold up storage case.

My sisters and I had got these when were 9,8. &6 respectively and we spent hours upon hours designing outfits..(my youngest sister later learned to make her own patterns and clothing that were better than you could find in any store). I bought them for my daughter and this year for my granddaughter (5). I love that we can use pattern plates from the 70’s & 90s that I had in my “save” bag.It’s a great activity for kids to do on their own or make into a multiplayer game ( the 3 of us 5, 28, & 50) would make a challenge for example, Ugliest outfit, retro, most princess like etc...Alone or with friends, the Fashion Plates Deluxe Kit (as well as any older fashion plates you might have) provides hours of fun and creativity.In addition to designing everything from the top of the head to the feet at the bottom- we used the size of the plates to make paper dolls & clothing and accessories for them -which is a lot of fun.

This was a great item for my arts and crafty wife who really loved it because it reminded her of a similar item she had as a child 👍☺️
