Very versatile little EDC pliers
These are great for every day carry or for the tool kit of a motorcycle, which is where I keep them. They are well made and incredibly sturdy for their size. The jaws are accurate and can even function as tweezers. They are also a perfect size for emergency dental extractions (probably!). They offer a surprising amount of grip and leverage even on quite large bolts, and will bite into smooth metal rods or wire extremely firmly.

Great tool. Bit of a fad but truly useful.
I knew the dimensions but still surprised how small these are. Very sturdy and quality feels good. 100 jobs you didn't know you needed help with. If you constantly doing odd jobs or diy these are great tool to carry on you. But sod's law will mean you don't have them on you when really needed.

Pocket sized perfection
I was shown one of these by a friend who was using it instead of a pot lifter while camping. It was so tactile that I had to have one.My job is maintenance in a large school and one or two tools are always in my pocket. I found I was carrying a Swiss Army Knife AND a multi tool, but only ever using the pliers on the latter. Within days of this Knipex arriving, it was my primary first choice for nearly everything. The knife has stayed and the multi tool is now in the hands of somebody else. The one handed operation means those tight spaces at the back of sinks etc are much more accessible and the strength achievable in this tiny wrench has to be experienced to be believed. In the couple of weeks that I’ve owned this remarkable tool, two friends have bought them for themselves and a heating engineer (who prides himself on his Knipex collection) actually borrowed mine for a tight space on the school boiler, and then promptly ordered one there and then.I have seldom been more delighted by the purchase of a tool, it is robust to the point of being nothing short of Mighty. The design is immaculate and a joy to use. It can handle anything up to an inch and slightly more, but can be employed in a huge amount of everyday tasks that would normally involve heading to the tool box. The precision for jobs like retrieving tiny screws which have slipped through to the back of fittings (as I can personally attest) is, I would say in my gushing praise, almost surgical.Highly recommended and an obvious five stars in all categories.

Knipex Cobra XS
Instead of carrying a larger multi-tool (like a leatherman) I have chosen to buy a decent pocket knife and a selection of tools to keep in my pocket. This has worked out cheaper and has left me with better quality items overall.I chose these Knipex pliers to keep in my pocket and they are an excellent choice. They fit in my jeans 5th pocket, with just the tips of the handles poking out. The mouth of this is easy to adjust and it has a wide range of adjustment. The tip is precisie enough to grip smaller items and adjusts wide enough to grip nuts and bolts with ease. The handle may be a little too small to get adequate torque at times, but as long as you are aware of what this is and what it is inteneded for, you should have no complaints. These are well machined, with grip knurling and there are no sharp edges on the teeth etc. These are an excellent everyday carry item and would suppliment a pocket knife well.

Forget Leathermans…..just get a Swiss Army Knife and one of these.
Being a fan of EDC kit, I have a lot of Victorinox Swiss Army knives of various sizes. Whilst a few models do have some pliers (which are “OK”), the lack of proper pliers has always been the weak link when compared to things like Leatherman style multi-tools.I’m so glad I found out about these on an EDC forum. For their tiny size they fell a smidge pricey (£15 would feel more reasonable than £20) but they are highly versatile due to their one handed use and opening grips (like a plumbers wrench). They feel very comfortable in the hand and very strong. The ability to open jaws wide mean you could have a decent attempt at working a nut as well if needed. I would hazard that in a pliers only competition, these Knippex would actually be better than even an expensive multitool. When you think how much a decent leather man would cost, I’m now a lot happier having a £50 Swiss Army knife and these £20 pliers in my bag and knowing I can do pretty much* everything a leatherman can do (and not shed as many tears if I lose a £150 multi tool).….*ok, I know with this combo I will still not be able to cut through wire, but in over 30 years I have never personally had the requirement when out and about.
