Holbein paint is good quality
Holbein makes some great colors and a few unique colors. The consistency tends to be very smooth and the colors intense. The olive green is a new version: the old version was two pigments, PY17 and PG36. The new one is three pigments PY150 PG7 and Pbr25 and it's a bit darker. Arylamide Yellow is Pigment PY17, PY 150 is Nickel Azo Yellow. PG7 is Phthalo Green blue shade and PG 36 is Pthalo Green Yellow shade Pigment Pbr25 is Benzimidazo Brown.Theoretically, the fewer pigments in a mix, the better as blends with other colors won't get muddy. This is an effect of different absorption curves of various colors canceling each other out on occasion. Unfortunately, due to pigment shortages and discontinued pigments, the trend today for watercolor "convenience colors" is more pigments in the mix.The old and new olive green are quite similar; the older is slightly more yellowish and less dark but they are fairly close.Olive Green is a convenience color; you can mix a similar color as you've figured out, by mixing any phthalo green with a cool yellow and then adding in some brown to dull it down. Or use Sap Green, a popular palette standard plus burnt sienna. Olive Green and Green-Gold are very handy for sunlit and shadowed foliage and though each can be simulated, make for very beautiful, clear shades when unmixed.

Five Stars
Wonderful green. Holbein makes the most vibrant colors for watercolor.

The best olive green
The best olive green. Unlike several other brands it does NOT have a distinctly brown undertone but retains its green hue. Go Holbein!!
